Everything Property Owners Need to Know About the Repiping Process

This is What You Get For Your Repipe Money.

Repiping is the process of replacing all existing domestic water piping and installing a new system throughout your home or building. Repiping is a long-term solution to serious pipe corrosion problems.

There are 7 different steps in the repiping process (if done properly):

Step 1 - Site Inspection:
A Site Inspection is critical to a successful construction process. A standard quote usually includes the installation of all new hot and cold domestic water piping and replacing the main distribution system and branch lines to all existing finished fixtures. Drain replacement and the fixtures themselves such as faucets, toilets, valves, water heaters, etc. are not usually included.

Step 2 - System Layout:
Once you accept the plumbing contractor's estimate for the repipe, you typically are expected to pay a 50% deposit for them to complete the project.

The system is then mapped and materials ordered as needed to complete the project.

Step 3 - Site Preparation:
Prior to Construction, you should receive a complete set of instructions for preparation of the site in order to protect your furniture, walls, floors, etc.

Your walls and ceiling are then cut open to get access to your old pipes.

(this is the messiest part of the process)

The old pipes are then removed.

Expect to be out of water 1-3 days.

Step 4 - Installation:
The pipes of your home are replaced, one section at a time.

Depending on your location you may need to wait on a plumbing inspector before they can complete their work.

Step 5 - System Performance Test:
The new installed system is tested for proper operation. Final adjustments are made to assure a safe and efficient installation.

Step 6 - Wall Repair:
Wall repair, painting and final cleanup begins.

Make sure a qualified dry wall repair company is used to ensure a proper finish.

Step 7 - Job Completion:
After final wall repair and cleanup, the plumber should walk you through the job and do a final inspection to ensure that all work is completed and in accordance with good and workmanlike construction.

The final 50% of the job estimate is now due to be paid to the plumbing contractor for the repipe.
