1. Cost. Repiping costs thousands of dollars. Make sure you know what you are getting and how long your solution will last. Many property owners are not able to afford this huge financial burden.
2. No Protection Against Corrosion. The corrosion process will start all over again as soon as the plumber turns the water back on after the pipes have been replaced. It is only a temporary solution against pipe corrosion.
3. Time Consuming. Repiping an average-sized home takes 5 working days or longer. During this time, your water is shut down so the pipes can be worked on. This is a huge inconvenience if you want to do any kind of cleaning during the day, whether it’s doing laundry, washing dishes, or even showering!
4. Messy. Because the plumber will have to tear into your walls, floors and ceilings to replace your pipes, naturally it will create a huge mess. It stirs up dust that normally lays undisturbed behind your walls, sometimes even asbestos which is a serious health concern. Imagine the dust that gets all over your furniture and electronics!
5. Disruptive. Repiping disturbs your regular lifestyle. It is very noisy, making it nearly impossible to relax or watch TV. Plus you have to be there to allow the plumber access to your home and move things out of the way for them. And if you have a cat or dog, you may have to get someone to take care of it to keep it safe and out of the plumber’s way.
6. Ongoing Health and Safety Risks. Because there is no protection against pipe corrosion, the water will eventually absorb materials from the pipe as they corrode over time.
7. Short-term Warranties. The warranties typically offered by plumbing contractors range between only 1 and 5 years. That’s pretty short considering how much your paying to repipe.
8. Environmentally Destructive. When your pipes are replaced, the old ones are discarded along with truckloads of drywall. Since these materials do not biodegrade easily, the put a strain on landfills and local environment.
9. Hidden Problems. If the plumber uncovers hidden problems like asbestos, lead pipe or lead paint, the costs of repiping will skyrocket up to 100X the original estimate!
10. Security. Plumbers and their helpers will be in and out of your space for days. This can pose a serious security risk for the property owners or their tenants.
